Step Two — BECOME A LEADER | JOIN THE TEAM Part 1 — Develop your Leadership It is God's will for us to know our purpose. Every single person is created by God with a . It is your responsibility to your potential To Know your potential, you have to know your Everyone is different in their personalities and tendencies. Understanding your own is key to revealing your purpose and destiny. You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother's womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous — how well I know it. Psalm 139:13-14 NLT God gifts you gifts. As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace. 1 Peter 4:10 ESV "Charis" translated gift is the same word for . God places you in . Many people talk about doing great things, but they fail to take advantage of the opportunities already in front of them today. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith. Galatians 6:10 ESV It has been wrongly accepted that Christians are divided into two groups: Those who . Those being ministered . To see the church through this lens is a big mistake. That is not how God designed his body. Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. Their responsibility is to equip God's people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ. This will continue until we all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God's Son that we will be mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ. Eph. 4:11-13 NLT The responsibility of the pastor is not ministry only, but to equip the body of Christ for ministry. Steps to develop your God given gifts: your gift. Develop your gift. The best way to develop your gift is to start using it. your gift to serve others. We receive many gifts that others don't have and they were given to us to bless and serve others. Part 2 — What Stands in the Way One of the best stories in the Bible of why someone can be reluctant after hearing a call from God is that of Moses. But Moses protested to God, "Who am I to appear before Pharaoh? Who am I to lead the people of Israel out of Egypt?" God answered, "I will be with you. And this is your sign that I am the one who has sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you will worship God at this very mountain." Exodus 3:11-12 NLT Moses made 4 statements of protest to God: am I? A sign of insecurity. Moses didn't think he could do it but God does not look for our ability, he looks for our availability. What if ? A sign of fear. I have . A sign of inadequacy. The Bible is full of God using people who are inadequate in their own power. someone else. A sign of reluctance. The enemy will give you either too much stuff or too many problems to keep you from acting on what he has called you to do. But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light 1 Peter 2:9 NKJV Part 3 — Membership Church is a family and is very important to our spiritual formation and growth. If you don't know where you belong, you are a spiritual orphan. When this world is gone it is the church that will remain. As Christians, we are called to one another. So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples." John 13:34-35 NLT To love someone, you have to be close to them. Being part of the body of Christ will lead you to become a member of a local church. As for the saints in the land, they are the excellent ones, in whom is all my delight. Psalm 16:3 ESV It is only through membership in a local church that you can the commandments of love. You don't have to be perfect to be a member of a church. We are here to grow, not to be perfect. Membership is not for control, but for . Part 4 — Join Our Team As part of the team, you represent not only yourself but CONNECTCHURCH and ultimately Jesus. People cannot see Jesus, but they can see us. Three attitudes of a Serve Team Member: Choose for the joy of the Lord is your strength! Nehemiah 8:10 ESV Joy assumes gratitude. your area People don't know how long you've been there or how long you've served, they are going to look to you. There is no area of our team more or less important than another. Always and never settle. One of our Core values is excellence. We believe we can always find ways to do things better. Improvement requires commitment, and commitment will revive your passion. Connect Team Requirements Qualifications and Team Commitment The same goes for those who want to be servants in the church: serious, not deceitful, not too free with the bottle, not in it for what they can get out of it. They must be reverent before the mystery of the faith, not using their position to try to run things. Let them prove themselves first. If they show they can do it, take them on. No exceptions are to be made for women—same qualifications: serious, dependable, not sharp-tongued, not overfond of wine. Servants in the church are to be committed to their spouses, attentive to their own children, and diligent in looking after their own affairs. Those who do this servant work will come to be highly respected, a real credit to this Jesus-faith. 1 Timothy 3:8-13 THE MESSAGE A Connect Team Member Is sincere, worthy of respect and of a good reputation Gives regularly to CONNECTCHURCH Has a genuine desire to serve and minister to other people Leads, motivates and teaches other people Creates positive group dynamics and resolves conflict within the group Leadership Honor Code Commitment As an essential part of the Connect Leadership family, you have a responsibility to develop and exhibit mature Christian behavior. This should be the basic premise of your desire to participate in a servant- leader position here at CONNECTCHURCH. While serving the Body of Christ as a servant-leader at CONNECTCHURCH, you pledge to present a good appearance at all times. In both attire and behavior, you should strive to demonstrate Biblical standards in all situations. As Christians, the way we present ourselves to others is of vital importance to the way others perceive Christ. Our conduct should never be an embarrassment to Christ, but should exemplify the best qualities of a mature believer and servant-leader. Exemplifying the highest moral commitment, CONNECTCHURCH leaders are to maintain a disciplined life of Bible reading, prayer and fasting. You must also refrain from such things as: Profanity Smoking or chewing tobacco Gambling Indulging in much wine or other alcoholic beverages Dishonest gain Illegal Drugs Pornography Sexual Immorality All behaviors which might cause Christ to grieve and others to stumble By providing an example in speech and action, we encourage others to grow in Christ and become servant-leaders themselves. This is a way of life measured by the heart and commitment of each leader in the CONNECTCHURCH family. We should regard it as an essential part of our development, not as an imposition or restriction. Abuse Policy Acknowledgment I understand that CONNECTCHURCH is a safe place for children and vulnerable adults and that CONNECTCHURCH complies with all Federal and State laws regarding reporting suspected child abuse. As a member of the Connect Team, I understand that suspected abuse isto be reported to the ministry leader who oversees the area in which I serve. I also understand the 4 types of abuse defined below: PHYSICAL: a physical act directed at a child or vulnerable adult that causes injury SEXUAL: contact or interactions between a child and an adult, or another child, when the child is being used for sexual stimulation of the perpetrator or another person. This includes exploitation through photographs, videos or other communication methods EMOTIONAL: acts or omissions by the parent or other caregivers that have caused, or could cause, serious behavioral, cognitive, emotional or mental disorders NEGLECT: failure to provide for the child or vulnerable adult’s basic needs. This includes adequate adult supervision, medical attention, housing, food and clothing. Most cases of physical neglect involve inadequate adult supervision that has caused harm to the child or vulnerable adult or places them in danger of such harm. I understand it is not my responsibility to investigate and in no instance will I confront a parent or caregiver if abuse is suspected. As a member of the Connect Team, I agree to comply with this policy and report any suspected abuse to the ministry leader who oversees the area in which I serve. Leader Declaration Because God has called me to serve my generation, I will value worship over wealth, 'we' over 'me', character over comfort, service over status, and God's purposes over possessions, positions, popularity, and pleasure. To my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, I say: However, whenever, wherever, and whatever You ask me to do, my answer in advance is yes! Wherever You lead and whatever the cost, I'm ready anytime, anywhere. I want to be used by You in such a way that on that final day, I’ll hear You say, 'Well done, good and faithful servant.
